Setting up the Machine

Ø      Prepare a flat, sturdy surface for the machine to rest on.

Ø      Remove the machine from its box along with the accessories bag.

Ø      Place the machine on the working surface, adjust the legs if necessary. It is recommended to leave the left pair of legs longer so the machine tilts slightly to the right. This helps the Polishing Compound flow to the Used Compound Reservoir.

Ø      Plug the loose end of the intake hose onto the tee piece on the top of the lid.

Ø      Lift the small square clear cover with the intake tube and remove the drawer from the machine.

Ø      Remove the Black Knob and Top Plate from the front spindle.

Ø      If you have one of the newer One-Step machines with a Bottle Feeder tube coming out the top:

Shake Polishing Compound Bottle well before opening. Then feed the Polishing Compound Bottle Feeder tube with filter and cap into the 32-ounce Polishing Compound Bottle. Tighten down the cap. The Polishing Compound is now ready to be sucked into the machine.

Otherwise, shake the Polishing Compound Bottle vigorously and fill the Used Compound Reservoir about two thirds to three quarters full. Place the Used Compound Reservoir back in the drawer, push the drawer into its place. Use slow movements to prevent splashing of the Polishing Compound.

Ø      Place the clear square cover with the intake tube back to its place.

Ø      Close the lid of the machine

Ø      Plug the power cable first to the outlet on the back of the machine and then to a grounded electrical outlet.

Ø      Switch the main power on – you will hear the sound of the cooling fans.

Ø      Set the timer for 1 minute. The motors will start spinning. After approximately 30 seconds, the Polishing Compound will start dripping onto the polishing pad. Let the timer finish its cycle and once it stops you will be ready to fix your first disc.

How to use:

Fixing Discs

Ø      Place a normal size single-sided* disc onto the disc spindle (label side up), cover with the Top Plate and secure with the Black Knob. Do not tighten the knob too much at this point, just enough to touch the Top Plate. The machine will tighten it itself.

Ø      Close the lid.

Ø      According to the damage of the disc, set the timer to the appropriate time. If you are new to the machine, we recommend setting the timer to 2 minutes and putting it back into the machine afterwards, if necessary. (Using the shortest sufficient time increases your productivity. This will allow you to fix the same discs many more times when they will get scratched again and this also saves on consumables.)

Ø      The spindles will start spinning. In case they are stuck, turn the timer clockwise to the 0 position, loosen the Black Knob slightly and try again. (This sometimes happens especially with new and dry polishing pads). If this does not help, re-calibrate the machine (see “Pressure calibration” chapter).

Ø      After the cycle is finished, the machine turns itself off automatically and gives a sound signal.

Ø      Lift the lid

Ø      Loosen the Black Knob, lift the Top Plate and the disc.

Ø      Using the CD Spray Cleaner, moisten the disc and wipe it with the attached wiping cloth.

Ø      Inspect the disc. If you are not happy with the result, put the disc back into the machine for additional time.

*For Double-Sided discs use a special (smaller) pad and then fix each side of the disc the same way as described above. For small (GameCube) discs use the small Top Plate from the accessories bag.

Consumable replacement

If after repairing some discs, the machine performance ceases to be sufficient, it might be time to replace the consumables.

Replacing the Polishing Compound

Ø      Dump the remaining Polishing Compound from the Used Compound Reservoir and rinse it

Ø      Place the Used Compound Reservoir back in the drawer

Ø      Clean the machine as described in the Machine Maintenance chapter

Ø      Empty the tubing by running the machine dry (remove tube from bottle) and without a disc for 30 seconds. Lift the intake tube up to ensure proper emptying.

Ø      Rinse the Used Compound Reservoir again

Ø      Pour new Polishing Compound into the Polishing Compound Bottle (about two thirds full)

Ø      Run the machine without a disc to prime the tubing for approximately 30 seconds (until the Polishing Compound starts dripping onto the pad again)

Replacing the pad

Ø      Grab the edges of the pad

Ø      Pulling up release the pad from the Velcro backing

Ø      Put a new pad in its place

Bottle Feeder

Newer Fix-A-Disc One-Step machines come with a Bottle Feeder. It's one step less when setting up the machine, and it helps keep the clean Polishing Compound from being mixed up with the used Polishing Compound.

Shake Polishing Compound Bottle well before opening. Then feed the Polishing Compound Bottle Feeder tube with filter and cap into the 32-ounce Polishing Compound Bottle. Tighten down the cap. The Polishing Compound is now ready to be sucked into the machine.

The Used Polishing Compound is discharged into the Used Compound Reservoir, stored in the Reservoir Drawer.

Recycle the used back into the One-Step Bottle Feeder using the One-Step Filtered Funnel provided. This specially-designed filtered funnel will help remove all contaminants from the used Polishing Compound, thus returning your used Polishing Compound to like-new again. Repeat as required. Machine Maintenance

The Fix-A-Disc One-Step machine does not require regular maintenance, such as greasing etc. However, it is a good idea to keep the machine clean, especially if you are not using it for an extended time. In this case, use a funnel to pour the Polishing Compound back into the bottle, rinse the Used Compound Reservoir and fill it with warm clean water. Place it back in the drawer and run the machine for two minutes without the CD, Top Plate and Black Knob. This will moisten the well of the machine and remove the remaining Polishing Compound from the tubing. Using a wet cloth, wipe the well and surface of the machine clean. Do not wash the pad in water, just use a wet cloth to wipe its surface. Too much water in the pad foam would cause the pad to warp slightly reducing its effectiveness.

Pressure calibration

The Fix-A-Disc One-Step machine comes pre-calibrated from the factory. However, fine calibration might be needed when replacing the polishing pad or under heavy working conditions (if the machine heats up, less pressure is required for the process).

Using the hex-key from the accessories bag, loosen the setscrew on the side of the spindle.

With the same hex key loosen or tighten the pressure by the setscrew in the tip of the spindle.

Tighten the setscrew on the side of the spindle back.

The right pressure will allow the machine to start spinning again. Do not try to start the machine spinning by hand.

Safety precautions

Ø      Make sure the machine is connected to a grounded outlet

Ø      Do not start the machine with the lid open

Ø      Do not open the machine before the cycle stops

Ø      Do not immerse the machine or any of its part in water

Ø      Clean the machine as instructed
